Chocolates make a grand gift for any occasion and Diwali is no exception. In fact, chocolages have added a much needed variety to Diwali Gifts.
Traditionally, Indian sweets or mithais were considered as must-have Diwali Gift but nowadays the percepti0n is changing. At least in metros, people prefer exchanging chocolate gifts instead of mithais. The scales are turning in favor of chocolates as they are considered an healthier option and can also be preserved for long. Mithais on the other hand are not considered healthy to consume after 7 days. And when you receive loads of mithai boxes from friends, relatives, and neighbors you cannot possibly finish them all in 7 days. The result is a lot of food wastage or overeating and both are not good.
As far as the variety is concerned both Indian mithais and chocolates offer in plenty. Mithais are more traditional gifts and chocolates contemporary. Haldiram’s mithais and namkeens particularly give a tough fight to the invasion of chocolates. In fact, Haldiram’s and many other confectionary shops offer Chocolate flavored barfi and other mithais so you get the best of both worlds.
One should adopt moderation when it comes to Diwali Mithais gifts. They are traditional so you don’t want to completely do without. In rural India especially a non mithai gift won’t be considered a good gift. So keep Diwali Chocolates for your city friends.
