I love this camera. I've been using the Canon Powershot G series for years, moving from G5 to G9, and finally decided to move into DSLRs. I'm an old photog and used SLRs in the film days, so going to SLR wasn't a problem. I was just so happy with my G9, I wasn't compelled to move. Until I broke my G9!! :(Now that I've got the T1i, I can't believe I didn't move into DSLR a long time ago. This camera, and the pictures it takes are FANTASTIC. I love having the full control over depth of field, I love the sharpness of high quality glass. I purchased the EF-S 18mm - 200mm zoom at the same time I purchased the camera. What I love about Canon is that the menus and functions are pretty well standardized across their cameras, with small variations where necessary due to varied functionality. That made it very easy for me to pick up this new camera and start shooting immediately. If you've been shooting point-n-shoots for some time and are ready to move up to DSLR, or you just want a new DSLR in the low price range, this camera is fantastic. I highly recommend it.

We love this camera! It's a bit complicated to learn, but has a lot of features and the quality is great. I'm anxious to get some other lenses to use now. We purchased it mainly because our daughter is taking an advanced photography class, but I'm also having fun playing around with the settings and learning digital photography. I wouldn't say it's professional, but it's a very good camera to start out with.

Having been involved with photography since I was 10 years old back in the 1950's, I have used every type of compact camera - Nikons, Olympus OM SLR's, Leica CL, Minox, the famous 70's Japanese point-shoot such as Konica, always seeking the maximum photographic flexibility in the minimum package. Playing with the incredibly small Canon SD780 for a few days, it's a good time to take a step back and recognize the amazing technology which has come to us through the digital revolution. There is simply no comparison to the photographic capability which one can now carry hardly noticed in a shirt pocket, including taking short high res VIDEOS! Amazing. And the SD780 is not just small, it's very well made and takes very good photos (although not the very best I've ever seen from a pocket camera). It is possible to quibble with a few design decisions - I would have voted for fewer pixels, 8 MP instead of 12MP - and get lower noise in return. The exposure sometimes leaves blownout highlights. But overall, it's superb, with quite good results at ISO 800 and useable at 1600. The video function works extremely well and I use it all the time since I find a short movie (a few seconds) is a better remembrance of an event than a still photo. Canon is the leader in pocket cameras for a reason - they listen to customer feedback and keep improving each new model. Also their menus and interfaces are simpler and cleaner than some of the other makers. Finally, the price is really very low for the sophistication that goes into one of these babies - the equivalent of about fifty bucks in 1970's dollars when the first compact cameras hit the market at much higher prices. The best camera is obviously the one you have with you when the opportunity arises for a priceless pic. So get one of these - no excuse to ever be without it.

The title pretty much says it all. For the money spent on this lens, you won't find a better deal anywhere. You won't even find a better deal for double the price of this lens. I use it with a 300D, and my pictures come out super sharp, and the colors are lively. I can use it indoors without a flash, and the bokeh looks great. My only complaint would be the build quality. It is a plastic lens, so although you get an extremely lightweight lens, you can probably say goodbye to it if you drop it on solid ground (nothing to cry about, you can replace it for $70 USD now Actually, replacing this lens is cheaper than fixing or replacing parts on other lenses. But then again, it is very light, so if you're just going to take pictures of your kids in the backyard, or you want to walk around the park with your camera, this is the lens to put on. There is a f1.4 50mm lens available by canon, but I don't see the use in buying it. If you're shooting indoor sports, f1.8 should be adequate, especially since you're likely to use iso 800 or 1600. Also note that if you want to do infrared photography, you'll probably want to use a prime lens (such as this), because you need to take long exposures (sometimes 30 seconds or more). I use this lens with my Hoya R72 IR filter, and a tripod, and the results are great.

I bought this camera for my boyfriend who races hydroplane boats and I have to say this is the best camera ever. It's pictures are so clear and when i zoom in it doesn't loose any clarity it's awesome. I highly recommend this to anyone. I have had professionals tell what a great camera it is and how they want to get one.

My wife wanted to move up to an EOS from an Elph. I decided to try this camera out instead. We really didn't want to deal with lenses and any of the manual selections on the EOS. This camera has a great zoom and flash. Highly recommended.
